NATIONAL
INCIDENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (NIMS)
While most emergency situations are handled locally, when there's a major incident help may be needed from other jurisdictions, the state and the federal government. NIMS was developed so responders from different jurisdictions and disciplines can work together better to respond to natural disasters and emergencies, including acts of terrorism. NIMS benefits include a unified approach to incident management; standard command and management structures; and emphasis on preparedness, mutual aid and resource management.
The National
Incident Management System, which was issued on March 1, 2004, was designed to
provide a consistent nationwide approach to incident management, applicable to
all jurisdictional levels across disciplines. NIMS provides a consistent
nationwide approach for federal, state, and local governments to work
effectively and efficiently together with business, industry, and hospitals to prepare for, prevent, respond to and recover from domestic incidents, regardless of cause, size or complexity.
Emergency Solutions will develop drills and exercises specific to your organization, allowing your employees to respond utilizing the policies and procedures in place. This will effectively test your plan, ensuring that what you have on paper will work, and finding what needs to be updated and changed before the disaster strikes.
